MELIPAT SERBET MAKAN (Napkin Folding)

CARDINAL

Diagrammed in Cookery For Every Household (Elizabeth Jack, 1914) under Bishop’s Mitre but quite different from other folds so named. To be effective needs a square of at least 600mm but when completed stands well and is possibly the best of the mitre shapes.

COCKSCOMB

Occurs in most napkin manuals including Mrs. Beeton’s.
Sometimes called a shoe. Although effective and easily folded, it is perhaps more a table decoration, some reluctance being shown to dismantling it.

SPIRE

Name coined by compilers, fold occurs in Paper Toy Making (Margaret Campbell, circa 1936)

WATER LILY

Perhaps the best known and attractive napkin fold although really a table decoration.
Numerous references include Mrs. Beeton’s Household Management series (circa 1900), and Practical Housecraft (Atkinson, 1939)
